This is the story of 3 generations of a family in Chicago and Montana, and their involvement in the development of ranching and railroading. From historical records and a circle of cottonwoods, the author brings to life seven main characters, the town of Monarch, and the Chicago, Madison, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad. In this historical novel Peter shares the dreams and hardships of the Ashmead family and his own lifelong romance with the railroad.
