Norman Brewster, a retired Canadian Pacific railroader, spent ten interesting years posted at Glacier Station at the western portal of the Connaught Tunnel at the time when the giant 5900 steam locomotives held sway on the Mountain Subdivision of the CPR mainline. The surrounding mountains of Glacier National Park engendered a deep fascination in him and during the winters his free time was spent pioneering ski mountaineering in the park. It was from the experience of taping his memories many years later that the author was inspired to write this book.
